Re: [WISPA] 25 pr Outdoor cat5

2006-12-18 Thread Ron Wallace

Yes, I can confirm Scrivs point. I have a 300' cat5 25 Pr and it is punched
down on a 12 port RJ45 Block, standard Cat5e terminal. It has worked well, thou
I am not using today. No good reason, just wanted to have fewer connectors.

Well then that explains why we've had success with our 66 blocks! Guess
they are indeed CAT5 rated.

There are 66 blocks that are CAT5 rated. We have also terminated on 66
blocks that were CAT5 rated and had RJ45's pre mounted and terminated to
the block. If I find the mfg/part number I'll post it.

We have a superior essex 25 pair but have not terminated it yet. Is there an

do you tell what pair is what aside from toning them?

RE: [WISPA] 25 pr Outdoor cat5

2006-12-16 Thread Mike Delp
Google for 25 pair color codes. Telco used several colors for the white
part of the pairs. So orange-white, then orange-black then orange-yellow,
etc etc. I made a table from one of these web pages, and printed it out for
the techs to follow it, and it worked out well, (They only messed up on a
couple of pairs during all three of them they wired.

John,

I worked with an audio engineer in a past life who used them to wire
sound systems for big churches and he claimed that not all punch down
blocks would pass the same bandwidth. How to tell the good from the
bad, I don't know. Maybe they come rated up to a certain freq?

I am curious if using it on a tower could save in future
deployments. You'd have it punched in a block at the top and bottom

and would only have run jumpers for new radios.

RE: [WISPA] 25 pr Outdoor cat5

2006-12-16 Thread JNA
We have a superior essex 25 pair but have not terminated it yet. Is there an
actual way to make since out of the mess of wires? When the shielding is
peeled back there is no grouping of pairs, color differentiation, etc... How
do you tell what pair is what aside from toning them?

If you need 100 megabit Cat 5 performance then it is best to terminate
on 110 blocks instead of 66 blocks. That is what I was always told in
the past. I have no proof other than what others told me. Can anyone
