Matt,
It seems that either way (802.1x or Web based authentication)
you have to block between authentication and authorization.
Return the LDAP status field (student/fac/staff), and if
source is Faculty subnet and status field is Student > deny

Hi
We are using Nortel which is OEM'd from Trapeze.
We can control the vlan assignment if we use 802.1x authentication and get
Radius to check a field in LDAP to decide which vlan to put them in. The
problem we have is we want to use the built-in Web Portal mechanism. This

We are using PEAP/WPA with Cisco ACS
server and Lightweight APs. Yes you only need install cert on ACS server. We
have cert from Thawte installed on ACS, and on Client side, client needs to
check “Validate Server Certificate” and check “Thawte Premium
Server CA”. Everything works fine.
I'm in the middle of
testing authentication using PEAP 802.1x and WPA/TKIP. We are trying to
find a semi high level of security but with a trade off for user simplicity. We
currently are running Cisco ACS Appliance and Cisco 1200 series fat AP's
that use Active Directory for the user auth
Charles,
Looking for a general review. I'm trying to figure out if the technology
will be capable of reliably supporting a small office. Also, curious about
the typical speed that I could expect. Also, do you believe that
encryption is important? I am concerned that somebody would plug in anothe

Thanks for that added detail. I was aware of points 1 and 2, but not of 3.

Hi Frank,
Several comments about HomePlug
1. It's generally a 1 injection point / transformer type system (most
vendors make some sort of panel extension capabilities, but there is fairly
high loss when this is implemented)
2. Medium is shared like wireless, but you only have 1 channel. The onl
Hi Stephen,
We've been doing a lot of testing of Powerline solutions lately
(specifically the new Motorola Intellon 2nd Gen line). The question you're
asking is fairly general. Do you have some more specific questions? Or are
you just curious and want some sort of general review?

Steve,
I've not seen the Corinex products, but have been watching the powerline
solutions for some time. Most first generation devices were severely
degraded by line noise on the circuit, but subsequent designs seem to be
greatly improved. I have used the Netgear HDX101 devices, but only in a

I have used them, but that was 2+ years ago. I would recommend googling for
'Corinex reviews' and check around.
Besides Corinex, I believe there are other HomePlug vendors, too. One of
the things to watch out for is crossing transformers.

Frank

I am trying to do wireless in an old historic building and I can't run any
cables to the AP's.
I was looking at an Ethernet over power solution from a company called
Corinex. The idea is you use the building power wiring to carry your
ethernet. Any place a power plug exists you plug in an adaptor
