Re: [WIRELESS-LAN] ArubaOS 8.5.0.7

2020-03-30 Thread Steve Fletty
At the University of Minnesota, we're running 8.5.0.5 in production. We
have 8.5.0.7 in our lab. No issues with 8.5.0.7 so far. Been running close
to a week, but not a lot of users on campus.

What version of 8.5?

We saw some issues in our lab prior to 8.5.0.4. We have a mix of 335s and
535s.

Re: [WIRELESS-LAN] Theater wifi - to have or not to have

2019-10-22 Thread Steve Fletty
Several years ago, the University of Minnesota gutted and redid the big
~3000 seat auditorium on the Twin Cities campus, Northrop Memorial
Auditorium. One of the driving factors to put WiFi in the auditorium space
came from consultants, who emphasized the importance of social media. We
had to hide the APs of course.

Re: [WIRELESS-LAN] request for info on WiFi Analyzer Pro software

2015-12-11 Thread Steve Fletty
We use it and it works well.

They also have a less expensive tool, which includes site survey
capabilities, called Aircheck (same name as the stand-alone hand-held
unit), for both Windows or Android. Not as full featured, but may meet
basic requirements...I haven't used that for a survey yet, but it would be
a decent tool for techs or students without extensive WiFi skills.

You might want to check out Ehahau too, especially if you want to do any
planning. The Ekahau survey tool has a planning tool that lets you use CAD
files, if you have them, and assign RF properties to obstacles on import,
which you can't do in the Airmagnet planning tool. They require you to draw
obstacleswhich is just too painful.

How large a deployment do you have? Also, what density, APs per square

There is 3rd party vendor/bake-off documenting the results but you have
indicated that you do not consider it.

Is this the Network Computing Meru/Cisco bakeoff article you're

All depends on what you're trying to do with 1x. Just authorization?
Plus encryption? In an Active Directory environment? etc

Both. No AD.

Subject: [WIRELESS-LAN] Cisco Airespace APs with AIrwave AMP Management

My questions to the list are:

1) Is the Airwave person correct that the AMP product can do all (or
almost all) of what the Cisco WCS+Location Appliance pairs do when
managing an Airespace environment?

No, I would say that person is not correct.

We demoed AMP. It has nowhere near the mapping features of WCS. Unless
Airwave has dramatically improved over the last 6 months.

I ran AMP for about a month in our demo. It was OK.

I've only played with WCS a bit, but in my book it is more feature rich.

The University of Wisconsin Madison used AMP in a large deployment, but
they've got the fat Ciscos, not the LWAPPs.
