Re: [WISPA] Switch with vlan
I'm using HP 2500 series switch for this purpose, not actually using VLAN as you can't place a port into several untagged groups at the same time. What I'm using is 'port-isolation' feature which gives the option of having 'uplink' ports able to talk to all the 'private' ports, but the private ports are isolated from each other. I'm sure dell or cisco has this feature as well. -- Butch Evans wrote: > I am in need of a switch (3, actually) that will allow me to prevent > all communications between ports (vlans), but will trunk the traffic > out an untagged port to the hotspot controller. > > Any suggestions appreciated. > Would you like to see your advertisement here? Re: [WISPA] Switch with vlan
I think my Dell switch does this, but I haven't tested for that exact functionality. - Mike Hammett Intelligent Computing Solutions http://www.ics-il.com - Original Message - From: "Butch Evans" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: "Wispa List" Sent: Tuesday, July 17, 2007 10:04 PM Subject: [WISPA] Switch with vlan I am in need of a switch (3, actually) that will allow me to prevent all communications between ports (vlans), but will trunk the traffic out an untagged port to the hotspot controller. RE: [WISPA] Switch with vlan
Check Ebay for Extreme switches, as well. They are very very cheap and most of the newer ones don't have issues. Stay away from the older 2 R/U ones though. We used to lose ports daily on them. Plus, you can hear the fans outside the building. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Russ Kreigh Sent: Wednesday, July 18, 2007 8:11 AM To: 'WISPA General List' Subject: RE: [WISPA] Switch with vlan Obviously a Cisco will do the trick, used ones are dirt cheap. RE: [WISPA] Switch with vlan
If you are looking for something very in-expensive and don't mind 10Mbps ports (100Meg uplink) take a look at the Cabletron ELS27-MDU10 ... Still available from 3rd party Excess Inventory (EBAY)... On the other hand, you can do this via any of the CISCO Catalyst Series 2900 as well. Lots and lots of choices.. Re: [WISPA] Switch with vlan
To prevent broadcast traffic between ports in the same vlan, you can do this using "switchport protected" in cisco catalyst 3550: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3550/software/release/12.1_4_ea1/configuration/guide/Swbcsup.html#wp1029319 Hope this helps Mark Butch Evans wrote: I am in need of a switch (3, actually) that will allow me to prevent all communications between ports (vlans), but will trunk the traffic out an untagged port to the hotspot controller.
