Re: [WISPA] Tower general contractors

2008-09-08 Thread Steve Barnes
The number UNO issue when you deal with Crowne Castle is get an
agreement up front of what all your requirements are. They took me to
the cleaners. I will NEVER deal with them ever again. NEVER

Quote for a Location was given $300/month. Then we agreed so they said
fill out this Application. Filled it out and got a bill for $1500 (APP
FEE). Project manager called and said that now that we are approved. We
can proceed once the received a $2500 PO for Structural analysis. Then
the salesman called back and informed the $300/month was actually
$875/month. Then like you they decided my certified climbers did not
meet their requirements. The would handle the install for $5000.00.
Then there would be a $1000 fee for Inspection of what I put on the
ground.

Needless to say I did not Pay any but a $1500 Fee that they split up to
supposedly cover their cost. I found an approved installer and Paid him
$1500. Got them back down to $350/month by working with another renter
on the same tower. Only way we got it all worked out was I had all my
original Documentation from them. Do The Same.

PS. Thanks Scott

We have the opportunity to get on a tower owned by Crown Castle
International for a pretty decent rent. However, they want the general

contractor over any work to have a 5 million dollar umbrella policy.
Having a hard time finding a general with anything near that. Any
recommendations in the Utah area?

We're only mounting equipment around 30 feet up the tower (planned to
even use a bucket truck), and putting in a little enclosure on the
ground. Bah...

We are a general contractor with 10 million I think. That much insurance is
not all that expensive.
Any general contractor should be able to buy a one time rider to their
policy to bump up the coverage.

I'll see if our current candidate is willing to do this. It's such a
small job, he's just about ready to throw in the towel dealing with all
the red tape as it is.

Re: [WISPA] Tower general contractors

2008-09-05 Thread Tom DeReggi
Thats not bad. Many times they want 10,000.

It should not be hard to get a 5 million umbrella. Any insurance company
will do it.

The catch is

1) Get your primary as a 1 million coverage, and then get teh Umbrella as an
additional 4 million. The umbrella is a seperate line item. What this means
is that the Primary $1mil insurance gets attacked first, then the umbrella
only if it exceeds the 1 mil plan. Because of this, there is less risk that
the Umbrella will get used, and therefore more cost effective to get.

2) You business qualification. It has been ruled that you can classify your
business based on the percentage of type of work that you do. If 80% of your
business is Computer repair, then you can qualify yourself as computer
repair. Or at minimum 80% of your premium at computer repair rates. The
second you ask for insurance to be a tower climber, its opening a huge can
of worms. Nobody wants to insure high risk work. Do not LIE about what you
do, as that could lead to compromising your coverage, if that was proven at
a later date. But if the majority of your business is in fact something else
other than tower climbing, you are telling the truth in stating your
classification. Getting approved for insurance and at appropriate rates, is
highly related to your classification.

Once we've proven to our partners that we are reliable, and safe, and don't
climb often, they've often reduced our max coverage requirement. But if you
are planning on climbing regularly on a commercial tower, you probably aught
to have 5 million coverage anyway.
