Re: [WISPA] are you for sale?
Johnny, There is nothing specific about my statement. I was talking about cash flow not compliance but I never mentioned either in my statement. That is where the assumption came in. This thread was brought about by the discussion as of late with some WISP's saying that they don't earn enough money to install another customer never mind the fact that the CALEA compliance solutions currently available are out of their price range. So this was not brought on by a discussion about whether or not they will comply with CALEA but that they don't have the cash flow. Agreed. That's different than a panic over CALEA brought on by all of the fear mongering and FUD though. Heck, if someone wants it bad enough I'd be happy to sell out! I'm pretty proud of what I've got going here though :-). Re: [WISPA] are you for sale?
My plans are filed. Kris is great! grin As for enforcement, we've been liable for a long time, just like the telcos. This is nothing new. I've spent a lot of time talking to the FBI head of CALEA. They know that we've been caught between a rock and a hard place here. They didn't make any effort to find us and get us up to speed etc. Yeah, I know the info was out there but how many knew anything about it? WISPA is working on a standard and other tools to help folks out here. There are people that can help you do an intercept right now. It might not be a perfect solution but there are things out there. Many of them aren't financially onerous either. Butch and Mike, feel free to step in with ideas here. Perhaps it's time to go over the ways that people can look for help on this issue??? laters, Marlon (509) 982-2181 (408) 907-6910 (Vonage)Consulting services 42846865 (icq)WISP Operator since 1999! Well Matt - not one of those people which would be me - will not ignore the fact of what you're stating is a valid reason for selling out due to Calea. I simply will voice my opinion on the matter. I am sure that more will agree vs. disagree with me that selling out your company due to a Calea hurdle is not a good reason to sell. And I really don't like seeing someone trying to come in and push a challenge that we're up against as a reason to sell. If you feel what I am saying doesn't hold water... then ignore me :) JohnnyO - Original Message - From: Matt Liotta [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: WISPA General List wireless@wispa.org Sent: Monday, May 07, 2007 3:58 PM Subject: Re: [WISPA] are you for sale? I'm not interested in that debate. Simply put, I am aware that some people feel CALEA may put them out of business and would like to exit before then. If you are one of those people contact me. I simply will voice my opinion on the matter. I never stated anything of the sort. What people decide to do with their business is their concern and not mine. If you are going to voice your opinion on a fact you should probably get the fact correct to start with. If someone wants to sell their business because of a bad hair day I don't mind talking to the person. I would mind if suddenly someone starting trying to argue that I am suggesting a bad hair day is a valid reason. I am sure that more will agree vs. disagree with me that selling out your company due to a Calea hurdle is not a good reason to sell. And I really don't like seeing someone trying to come in and push a challenge that we're up against as a reason to sell. I am not pushing anything. CALEA is a regulation put on businesses by the Government; not me. It's not my fault CALEA exists. Maybe you should spend your time helping all these companies worried about CALEA compliance as opposed to worrying about me. Clearly they can use your help since you don't seem to think CALEA is much a of hurdle. -Matt -- WISPA Wireless List: wireless@wispa.org Subscribe/Unsubscribe: http://lists.wispa.org/mailman/listinfo/wireless Archives: http://lists.wispa.org/pipermail/wireless/
