RE: [WISPA] outdoor webcam

2007-01-15 Thread Dennis Burgess - 2K Wireless
Ya, I have been selling the inscape webcams for a while. They work quite
well, simple and do work well. We usually use them for the wired POE
installations though. The only time I needed a wireless camera, we ended up
just putting a CB3 next to the camera (already had power) and connected to
the existing AP vs getting the wifi built in camera.

I've got one from Inscape data. It works very well. I've also got one of
the DLINK ones from 3 or 4 years ago. I hope they are better now, I never
did get the other one to FTP alarm images to anyone. Finally gave the cam
away.

Probably the first thing you should do is mount the camera above 10 feet or
you won't have to worry about white balancing. Actually I've had some great

chats with Marlon about Cameras and he has a plethra of information, that's
who I'd suggest. Just remember "weather proof box". My favorite weather
resistant camera is: http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/volcanocams/msh/ which looks
at the explosive Mt. St Helens here in my state. At home I use linksys
cameras.
There is my cent and a half.

Hi,

Does anyone have suggestions for an outdoor webcam that will survive
_very_ harsh conditions (locations that get 60mph winds and up to 10ft
of snow each winter)?

I'm not looking for anything fancy, just a basic webcam with ethernet
interface and maybe a wide-angle lens.

Thanks,

Travis

funny thing... I use the Panasonic (can't remember the model #) PTZ cameras
they're about $200 @ Radio Shack - I put them in a grey carlon enclosure
with a piece of plexiglass siliconed to the front. Had one up on a tower
site for 4 yrs now in NJ - pretty harsh up there in the winter - down to
-10 or so, with snow and all.

Hi Travis,

These folks use some nice ones:
http://akweathercams.faa.gov/allcams.php and for the video description see
http://www.medallionfoundation.org/webcam_video.htm

I think they are Axis cameras with all weather enclosures. Temps in Alaska
range from 100 above to around 80 below.
