Re: [WSG] Accessible Image Map Editors
Marvin, I doubt that there is any accessible image map editor out there in the wild. This editor must be able to interpret the image. For this exercise you'll definitely need help by someone who is able to draw the areas. When this part is done, you can put the alt-attributes at the img and area tags to make the map accessible to the rest of the world. Good luck! RE: [WSG] Accessible Image Map Editors
It may seem strange, but image maps are more accessible to screen reader users than to almost any other user group. They are a significant barrier to some user groups even when correctly coded, so you should provide the information in an alternative, accessible manner. For your class exercise you need to do the following to make the map accessible to screen reader users: 1. Provide an 'alt' attribute for the main image. 2. Provide 'alt' attributes for each of the areas in the map. -Original Message- From: li...@webstandardsgroup.org [mailto:li...@webstandardsgroup.org] On Behalf Of Marvin Hunkin Sent: 25 October 2009 12:36 To: wsg@webstandardsgroup.org Subject: [WSG] Accessible Image Map Editors hi. is image map accessible with jaws? i need to create a image map for a web page i am developing for one of my online programming classes with http://www.johnsmiley.com any recommendations would be appreciated. cheers Marvin. *** List Guidelines: http://webstandardsgroup.org/mail/guidelines.cfm Unsubscribe: http://webstandardsgroup.org/join/unsubscribe.cfm Help: memberh...@webstandardsgroup.org *** *** List Guidelines: http://webstandardsgroup.org/mail/guidelines.cfm Unsubscribe: http://webstandardsgroup.org/join/unsubscribe.cfm Help: memberh...@webstandardsgroup.org ***
