I agree, this is the list with more oof replies I'm subscribed to.
It's a bit annoying.

Re: [WSG] Ads breaking Compliancy

2006-03-05 Thread Alvaro Mouriño
I've collaborated with the PAN/MMM (phpAdsNew/Max Media Manager)
project [0] by patching the code it embeds in the page to place the
ads, which was not XHTML compliant (it is now =) [1]
There are few projects that take this matter seriously.

[WSG] Bottom-center button in div

2006-01-18 Thread Alvaro Mouriño
Hi list,

I have a little form inside a table (please don't hate me) and in one
cell I have a control and a button. I want to center that button as
you will see in the pics.

The thing is that vertical-align doesn't work, and positioning differs
from FF to IE. Another things is that the div takes the whole cell in
FF (as I thought it would) but just a line in IE.
Also the fieldset around the table is not nicely rendered by IE (this
only happens when there's a legend tag) and of course, margins vary.

Here are the visual examples:
Firefox: http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=m7uyc6
IExplorer: http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=m7uyib

In order of importance, I want to fix:
.: The button alignment, centered in the bottom of the cell.
.: Table margins, as it also happens with not-centered text, it reders
almost on the fieldset border.
.: It would be nice to fix that ugly fieldset border, but I don't
really care. I'd rather have the button alignment fixed.

Well, tell me if this things are fixeable or if I should try another
way. Don't throw fruits at me for using tables, I'm new to CSS and
it's a bit of a nightmare to layout forms with CSS.
The ugly table border was just to show the table dimension and it's
cells, it will be switched to 0 as soon as I solve this.
Thanks in advance,

AlvAro

Re: [WSG] pdf graphics

2006-01-14 Thread Alvaro Mouriño
What do you mean by 'usability'?
Because there is no such thing as user-friendliness, it just depends
on the interface you are used to. If you spent 40 years of your life
using command line, I'm sure you wouldn't find M$ Windows (R) so
intuitive. The same applies if you've been using Photoshop since v5.0.
What I mean is that The GIMP is an alternative, but many people when
looking for an alternative, expect a clon.

Re: Re; Re: [WSG] the correct use.

2006-01-13 Thread Alvaro Mouriño
So many people think that should be avoided, but only for text
layout or for the entire document?
Because I've been so tempted to use tables when formatting a form, and
now I read that br tags should not be used... And I think that
creating a unique CSS class with the absolute position for each
control is as not-right as using tables.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Clarify this for me please.

[WSG] Position problem.

2006-01-06 Thread Alvaro Mouriño
Hi, as some may already know, I'm just begining with Web Standards and
I'm having this problem:
http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=jsltgk
As you can see, I have a header under a tag, then a tag
defined by me and a tag.
I managed (mybe not in the most standart-compliant way) to move up the
 text, but the text is too low. I could do the same, but I
don't know if it's the right way to do this.
Here's the CSS:

h1 {
font: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 14px;
font-weight: bold;
padding-left: 4px;
}

fecha {
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 9px;
padding-left: 2px;
position: relative;
top: -10px;
}

p {
font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: 11px;
}

Thanks,

AlvAro

[WSG] New to Standards.

2006-01-04 Thread Alvaro Mouriño
Hi list,
For about 8 years I've been working with HTML and web-related
languages. One day I discovered CSS and learnt (not much) about it,
but I never realized how powerful it is. Little time ago something
called "Web Standards" called my attention, causing me a very strong
curiosity. That's why I started investigating (and found this list in
the process), but never found material that introduced the subject
from scratch, for a beginner.
Now I'm writing to this list to ask for books, eBooks, links, and
every piece of information that could help me to learn and understand
Web Standards and not feel like an ignorant when I read the posts sent
to the list, and, in a not-far future, help others too.
Thanks in advance everyone,

AlvAro

Re: [WSG] Best Web Standards thing I learnt in 2005.

2005-12-21 Thread Alvaro Mouriño
"Transition from tables to web standards" is one of the goals I didn't
achieve this year. But finding this list was, for sure, one of the
best things of the year.
Learnt LOT of things, and still have lots more to learn... Migrating
completely to Web Standards is one of them (and it's in the top of the
list)
Cheers!
