I use image slicing on some images to stop some amatures from nicking
an image. Sure, it doesn't stop everyone, but it does slow them down.
You can still have meaningful alt text as needed.

I still use slicing to split a single image into JPEG and GIF sections. For

Hi,
The only reason I can think of to slice images would be if the design
calls for text wrapping around a curved image for whatever reason
(though I haven't seen this done well and with clean markup).
I too have been thinking about a good way to handle larger images and

Interesting question.
Slicing an image was a necessary part of creating a table based design
to ensure that the table cells aligned properly to preserve the design.
Designers sometimes used image slicing to improve the perceived
responsiveness of a site by providing some visual feedback that the
I haven't seen any discussions about slicing images, with regards to web standards. I expect slicing is discouraged, since it is table-based. What do you do if you want to use a fairly large image in a design?

Comrade, there are many fantastic resources that deal with converting lists into 'tabbed' navigation.
Places to start might be;

Keeping in mind that everyone has their own opinion on semantically correct
markup, I'll give you my opinion.
If they are reduced to their most basic level, navigation links are simply a
list of links to other parts of the site.
If we assume that some devices will see them without any css or othe

Sorry, I'll try to be more verbose the next time. I see Russ has already

Aw russ...
I see your point!
One thing - which I have NEVER understood is...
Why you people all use Lists?
I mean I just dont understand why lists are used for menus...
It sounds like a stupid question - beause a menu is a list...
But just wondering, why you use them, instead of simply li

Chris,
The tabs looks really nice but Tonico does have a point. If you strip out
all css styles, the links will appear in one line with very little between
them - making them hard to distinguish on older browsers, browsers that have
css switched off or text-based browsers..
Could you convert that
