I got 0.3db steps prior to v1/9. Then 0.1db in v1.9. I now get 0.3db steps in
v2. Not a big deal, but -0.1db is max drive before distortion on my setup.
I use the scroll wheel to set, which also shows the set value in digits.

You can also use the scroll wheel on the mouse for very fine adjustments. Put
the cursor on the slider and roll the wheel up or down.

correct, and use SHIFT or CTRL to get coarser 1dB steps with the scroll
wheel. To complete the options, the "Home" and "End" keys also work to
jump to the upper and lower limits respectively.

As you said its hard to know what kind of software are they running.
Mostlikely XR0Z are using classic WSJT-X because they are transmiting from
300 Hz and up... and slots are mixed with different kind of messages, with
comma delimited msg in one slot. MSHV can't do that... each slot
