I don't know whether a KPC-3 or KPC-3+ is supposed to continue
beaconing in that case. Seems like it though (for TNC command-mode).
If you are going into KISS mode, using either Serial KISS or AX.25
interfaces in Xastir, then Xastir would be the one doing it all for
you.

Could you post the details of what you are doing and exactly how. I
would like to pull down and convert a state or two.

Answered my own question..
All the files are zipped. Once unzipped they will have names of the form
"OR_Arlington_20140731_TM_geo.pdf".
Pure speculation, but I wonder if the flow control settings for the serial
port are wrong if you could "hang up" the KPC-3 waiting for data.
If data is going out from xastir over the interface that probably wouldn't
be it though.

I used: http://geonames.usgs.gov/apex/f?p=262:1:0
Which allowed me to easily request a listing for a full state, 24K scale,
and USTopo. From there you can download a CSV and strip it down to only the
current release (sort on "Version") and delete all the fields other than
the download link. From
Xastir isn't set up to do such things. If you are doing scripting and
want full control of what you send out, I'd suggest setting the TNC up
as a KISS TNC, then setting up AX.25 networking in Linux. You can then
set up Xastir to talk to the AX.25 port. This lets you share the port

More to the story, folks.
It's been a while, but I'm still on the case. I went through a
laborious process: clear off a 4GB USB stick for mkusb to create a
Kubuntu 15.04 stick (non-persistent) to then create a persistent 15.04
USB stick (8MB, which left me enough room to play. It has all I
