these three online maps from the xastir cvs install work for me: osm_tiled_cycle osm_tiled_mapnik USridge none of the others seem work. I have a bunch of cloudmade (tiled) maps that I defined long ago. Okay everyone; we have a release about to drop and we might as well FIX SOME PROBLEMS that have languished way to long! Specifically some of the online map .geo files that are built in to the program that DO NOT work; such as: Online/CanadaTopo250k (currently only a placeholderfile in /usr/local/share/xastir/maps) Online/CanadaTopo50k (currently only a placeholderfile in /usr/local/share/xastir/maps) Online/OSM_tiled_osmarender Online/OSM_tiled_skiing Online/OSM_tiled_topOSM_0_relief Online/OSM_tiled_topOSM_1_contour Online/OSM_tiled_topOSM_2_features Online/TXRadar(points to http://mesonet.tamu.edu which appears to be abandoned) Online/USRadar (points to http://mesonet.tamu.edu which appears to be abandoned) Online/WMSRadar(points to http://mesonet.tamu.edu which appears to be abandoned) Online/terraserver-reflectivity(currently only a placeholderfile in /usr/local/share/xastir/maps) Online/terraserver-topo(currently only a placeholder file in /usr/local/share/xastir/maps) Online/terraserver-urban (currently only a placeholder file in /usr/local/share/xastir/maps) Online/terraserver (currently only a placeholder file in /usr/local/share/xastir/maps) I remember a discussion thread that some of the OSM_tiled_* are possibly no longer available from a while ago; should we consider dropping those map geo files from the source and thus clean up the maps presentation view for newer and future users? The same should be considered for all of the Placeholder .geo files and the MesoNet related Radar.geo files in my opinion. Others have proposed fixes to the missing radar screen availability that do work and are acceptable IMO. In the case of Online/USRadar the patch on SourceForge presented by Kevin Otte N8VNR (see http://sourceforge.net/p/xastir/patches/3/) works 'FB' on V2.0.5 as does a large group of files created/modified by Kevin W Paetzold K1KWP that allows one to select any individual Radar site. Haven't played with that variant so don't know if it auto-updates in the background or not. I typed curl (return) and it wants more info and directs me to check the help file, same with wget. That means to me that both programs are there and that the shell found them. So an instance of Xastir launched from the same shell should find them also. Rehash does nothing, command not found. That just means you are using one of the less common variations of shells. Most bash/tcsh type shells implement some sort of rehash command to rebuild the list of known commands. Moving up the list of drastic actions, I'd try logging out of the X session and then logging back in. And if you are going to do that and/or are considering a reboot then you might as well see what updates are available and install them while you are at it. You may also want to launch a web browser or other web based application and make sure that you can browse the Internet. Even if email is working it is possible that http type applications aren't working and that Xastir is interpreting a failure by curl or wget as program not found. It's a hacked up Mach microkernel with a 4.4 BSD server on top of it that Apple's tried to make look as much like FreeBSD as possible. There's some code sharing there, but the relationship to FreeBSD is shaky at best. For example, the threading models are completely different because Mach has a native idea of threads that is much different than FreeBSD. I tried typing rehash on a command line and it didn't know what I meant, and this is with bash. I did a 'man rehash' and got a very lengthy description of builtin commands, which includes rehash, so it's odd that it didn't work for me (unless I'm not using it right). So it's quite possible that the other gentleman is having the same problem. It could very well be that it's not as simple as just rehash ... rehash is a csh thing (which means tcsh too). Bourne and Korn shell to my knowledge never had a cache that needed to be rebuilt. Doesn't Xastir use libcurl instead of the curl command if it's been compiled in? Also, is it that the configure command is not finding libcurl? In that case you need to install the development package for curl as well and re-run configure. I didn't pick up on whether you were compiling Xastir from sources. -- Curt, WE7U. http://www.eskimo.com/~archer APRS: Where it's at!http://www.xastir.org Lotto: A tax on people who are bad at math. - unknown Windows: Microsoft's tax on computer illiterates. - WE7U.
