The way to create it is to have an Ubuntu system with xfce4 installed Install xrdb and have it running Using MS Remote Desktop Connection on either a Windows or Mac and use that to connect to the ubuntu system Start thunar and as your home directory is the default, you get the error. We've had to move from xfce for a number of reasons, not just this one. When the same test is done with nautilus, it allows for a graceful unmounting by asking if you'd like to unmount it anyways.
