[Xfce-bugs] [Bug 15468] New: Cant open about dialog while properties dialog is open

2019-05-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15468

Bug ID: 15468
Summary: Cant open about dialog while properties dialog is open
Classification: Xfce Core
   Product: Xfce4-panel
   Version: Unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Medium
 Component: General
  Assignee: xfce-bugs@xfce.org
  Reporter: scootergri...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: Panel 4.14

I can right click a panel-plugin and select about and then right click again
and select properties to get two dialogs.

But if i try the other way around i cant get the about dialog if the properties
dialog is already open.

I would think i should be able to open the about dialog regardless of the
properties dialog being open or not.

If it is on purpose that the user should not be allowed to open the about
dialog if the properties dialog is already open then i suggest making the menu
item grey so that the user cant select it.

OS: All
Status: NEW

Right click a folder in Thunar and select Open with.

In Xubuntu it says:

Open with "File manager"
Open with "Catfish file search"
Open with "Open Folder with Thunar"

So the last one says "Open" and "with" twice.
So maybe that could be improve to just say:

Open with "Thunar"

I dont know if it will not work in other cases.

Right click desktop
Select Create document

The last menu item (in xubuntu) says Empty File.
But the default name for the file is New File.

From xfdesktop:

msgid "_Empty File"
msgstr "_Tom fil"

Thunar:

msgid "New File"
msgstr "Ny fil"

Not sure those are the correct strings but perhaps "_Empty File" should be
changed to "_New File" so they are the same apart from the "_"?

Empty value for email address in libxfce4ui/xfce4-about/translators.h results
in "<>" in the dialog.

So:
{ "translator_name","", FALSE },

Becomes:
"translator_name <>

But i would like without the " <>" part:
"translator_name

And make sure there is no added space after the name if there is not email
address.

I prefer not having my email address there.

 Component: Clock
  Assignee: xfce-bugs@xfce.org

  Target Milestone: Panel 4.14

Seems like (at least in Xubuntu 19.04) that the clock uses "%d %b, %H:%M".
Both the panel clock and the lightdm-greeter clock.

I would like date and time to follow the locale.
So if i use danish_denmark (da_DK) it should use the standard way for that
country/language.

Does Xfce not follow such a locale system so time/date will appear correct
according to the locale in use?

Sure you can add "%d %b, %H:%M" to be translated in the po files for each piece
of software but that would not be smart.

Cant see what version i have. How do i check it?

Thanks for the feedback !

Hehe, looks like I was a bit too focused on some specific ucas I had in mind,
and actually forgot to check what all the ucas in the Wiki are about :P
I agree with you for most of the ucas in the wiki !

So lets identify a subset of ucas for which it makes sense.
I would propose the following:
- "catfish search"
- "Converting PNGs to JPEGs"
> What about gif, webp, tiff...?
Looks like the name of the uca is bad. "Convert" seems to be able to convert
alot of formats. I would keep it as "convert to jpg".
- "Rotating JPEGs"
> Image viewers can do that, or just open the file with Gimp
That's actually a uca I use alot. Via ristretto or gimp many clicks are
required. Real nice if you dont need to leave thunar for rotating pictures.
- "Creating a symbolic link"
> What about drag + ctrl + shift?
IMO would be nice to have a default UCA for it since many people (including me
:P) might not know the shortcut / might like to have to option in the context
menu.
- Comparing selected files/directories
Ok, there are more diff viewers than "meld" out there. However would be nice to
start with something to show the possibility ... maybe we can exec. diff in a
terminal ? User can replace by some more advanced diff viewer on its own, if
required.
- Move files into a new folder

Please note that such pre-condition assertion should not be used to fix the
bug, merely to trace it.

From the backtrace in comment 0, it's clear that "user_data=0x0" so is
"manager=0x0" and the pre-condition will trigger.

But some distribution build their packages with the pre-conditions and
assertions disabled, so this is not a /real/ fix.

with 0.4.91, if i create a new bookmark it defaults to FTP/port 21. if i switch
to SMB type, the port field is hidden, but the value is retained, and saved in
the config. Trying to connect to the share will fail with connection refused,
as it tries on port 21.

to make the smb share work, i need to edit .config/gigolo/bookmark and remove
the port line for the given bookmark.

a bit similar to bug #14928 ? probably easy to fix, just filing it so its
tracked..
