not the best / most appropriate forum. I read an article about using xrdp
to cnnect to a Linux system from a Windows 8 system, which is what I am

Are you on Debian based distribution?
Looks like Xvnc doesnt start, you could try and see if the package for this
is installed! Think it is the vncserver package, although it would be handy
to know what distribution/version you are on.
