Thanks
I have downloaded the last beta release for Xubuntu and installed it on a Dell Inspiron 3000 laptop which is wireless networked with a Netgear WG511T pcmcia card. With the card installed during the installation it was detected and cofigured perfectly. Xubuntu has been rock solid since the instal. I have installed the tool bar battery indicator, CPU use indicator, network traffic indicator and it has improved both appearance and usefulness. Please give yourselves a big pat on the back as I have looked long and hard for a simple easy to install and configure distro for this laptop. Thanks. Iain P.S. I have been using Ubuntu since 4.10 on a Latitude laptop. It is now 5.10 and I think that is amazing too. === The Blue Cross is Britain's pet charity, providing practical support, information and advice for pet and horse owners. xubuntu-users-admin
hi:i am confused about something.what i did:* added a user and group called lighttpd through xubuntu-users-admin (hereafter called xua)* added a user mrelectron to the lighttpd group thru xua expectation:* mrelectron as a member of the lighttpd group will have the same access to directories and files as the lighttpd group.checking:* anytime i go into xua i can see mrelectron as a group member of lighttpd. but: * if i try and access a directory owned by group-lighttpd i get a permission denied error. troubleshooting:* running groups (whoami returns mrelectron) returns:mrelectron adm dialout cdrom floppy audio dip video plugdev lpadmin scanner admin .i would have expected a group lighttpd* running groups mrelectron (whoami returns mrelectron) returns:mrelectron : mrelectron adm dialout cdrom floppy audio dip video plugdev lpadmin scanner admin lighttpd ..this has the group lighttpd. so my questions are:1. why i am having a permission denied error.2. why do you get two different outputs from the groups and groups username commandcheers mark -- xubuntu-devel mailing list xubuntu-devel@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/xubuntu-devel
Re: xubuntu-users-admin
so my questions are:1. why i am having a permission denied error.2. why do you get two different outputs from the groups and groups username command You'll need relogin for the change to take effect. But indeed it is weird that groups behaves differentlybased on the argument passed.Jani -- xubuntu-devel mailing list xubuntu-devel@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/xubuntu-devel
removing 'dapper drake' from docs
HelloI just found out on #ubuntu-devel that the DD codename should not be present anywhere in sight. That mostly means the startpage and the desktop guide for xubuntu. Can someone with svn commit access make this change so only xubuntu 6.06 remains? Also what do you all think of the idea of having the desktop guide linked from the FF start page.this way I would not need to patch the desktop menu to have another entry :)Should be visible and bookmarkable enough by first time users thanksJani -- xubuntu-devel mailing list xubuntu-devel@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/xubuntu-devel
