I think that this is because of the
What do you mean by rotational friction?
Resistance to a rotary motion, not to a torsion motion (i.e. rotary around
contact normal).
But I am not assured that it is necessary here.
For me this simulation is unrealistic because there are not enough
spheres and they are too large. Try with
