Re: [Zappa-List] CD Software

On nero you must check the tickbox that
says
NO PAUSE BETWEEN THE TRACKS
it then burns theWAV Files without
annoying gaps

Yeah, i think nero does it, but if i'm not mistaken you must check "disc
at once" somewhere. If you do it using "track at once" you'll have the
annoying gaps. A probably better method though is to use Exact Audio Copy,
then you could extract the whole disc as a big wav file, plus a cuesheet file.
The cuesheet file would then have the information for burning the big wave
file separating each track precisely like the source.

2005-08-16 Thread John Goddard

Go to My Computer/c
drive
Documents and settings/your folder which
relates to your computer name or user
Open folder LOCAL SETTINGS
Then Temp

Theres where NERO Puts the nero temp
files as default

in there you will have the full files
from the discs you have burned, they should usually delete automatically after a
sucessful burn!

Delete them

I know people are waiting on me for vines. I'm
getting stuck thanks to Nero (now that I've gotten it to work
  again)

  I've burned two discs ( 1974-10-29, 1 2)
and now Nero says there isn't enough room on my drive, and to make sure it is
pointing to a folder with 80 MB or more. I've checked, my hard drive has ample
room, but just to humor the damn thing, I've cleaned of loads of garbage.
Tried again, same story from Nero. Apparently the cache\prefernces folder Nero
  refers to
is not my "C" drive. Tried to find it, no
  avail.

Can any of you out there set me
  straight?

ok for your specialist here...here's my question ?

from a tree here in this group i got this album in flac format and it
 contains 9 tracks.

i used to have this album downloaded from a newsgroup long time ago and
 this version contains
 10 tracks !!!

the extra track is called: i'm in the music business and runs for 4
minutes
 and 5 seconds.

so were there 2 versions of this album or where is this extra track coming
 from ?

  Hey Kids!

I think I'd like some opinions, if you'd be so
  kind.

Thanks to brother Bart, in Poland, I have sought out
the recording of 801130, Des Moines, IA - billed as
  "The sickest songlist
you've ever seen". It's a B- audience recording (and IMO that
B- is kind; I'd rate it a C-). I intend to start a vine of this
  show...

Now I intend to rip this to my machine, and tweeze it
  for my own enjoyment. I believe that I can improve upon the overall quality;
tho there are limits to what you can do, of course (a polished turd is still a
turd - FZ). My question to all of you out there: would you rather have a copy
warts and all, or would you rather have a SOFA tweezed
  copy?

PLEASE! Don't bother to respond to this with "I want a
copy when it's ready" - that is NOT part of the conversation right now. I
wanna know if the collectors out there would rather mess with it themselves
(if they mess with it at all), or listen to a "pure" artifact. I'd also love
to know if a cleaner copy of this show exists, but I kinda doubt
  it.

For example: the Illinois Enema Bandit encore on my
copies does not include Sweet Lelani - it cuts off just as the solo starts to
roll. And - I think - it's Pick Me I'm Clean that has a nasty warble, until
the song finally just cuts out. I would replace these with (god forbid) tracks
from around the same time... I wanna seriously mess with this mofo; because
right now, I find it damn near unlistenable. But that's me. I really wanna
know what you guys think. Because I will gladly pass on this turd as it
  sits...

  Let the debate begin...

  Thanks for that Jim
It works fine on that one.

For Mac users it's a better program than MacFlac and CarbonShorten as it
does the job of both in one.

It might be MKW that is the problem for Mac's. I've never tried to use
them, never come across any really, most stuff comes in Flac or Shn
  format.

  No Problem for Mac's

Get a program called ' xACT' (x Audio
  Compression Tool)

It works a treat for FLAC SHN and
  APE

  http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21952

  Product
  Description:

xACT stands for X Audio Compression
Toolkit. It is a GUI based front end (written in AppleScript Studio) for the
unix applications Shorten (3.5.1), shntool (2.0.3), monkey's audio compressor
(3.99),flac (1.1.1) and cdda2wav 2.01a32(with paranoia support). It also uses
a modified md5sum (modified from 2.1 textutils) and sox (12.17.7). It does the
basic commands of these applications and adds a few features to speed up
productivity in creation of etree.org standard
  filesets.

  Makes it's own sauce.

No problemSOFA, all software is on
the disc everything is on board one disc Even the printing software
!

Its not rocket science to suss
either!

The reason behind compression is logical
in sofar you can get more on one disc and with it been in DATA Format you can
load artwork and software too

One of the best reasons though is burning
parameters each individual will burn his or her ownaudio disc at the speed
they want to,(after converting the data files to Wav(High quality Stereo music
Files) this won't introduce glitches and clicks when copying Audio only discs

  You
can get it here. The good thing about ape is that it compresses a tiny bit
smaller than flac and is still lossless. The bad thing about ape is that
unlike flac it leaves our Mac using friends out in the cold. It’s primarily a
Windows only format. There have been some projects to get it to work with OS X
but user reports haven’t been good. In fact it just plain doesn’t work for
them. Most online trading communities have banned it until the Mac problem is
  resolved.
