I'd say this is the most viable approach. No one should use Zim as a
replacement for LyX or some other way of writing LaTeX
A completely different path would be to replace the wiki backend
language used in zim with that used in asciidoc, then documents can be
exported to pdf, dblatex, xhtml, docbook by external tools and formats
controlled by the asciidoc toolchain. This would be a radical change,
but zim would then hop

trying to send the page in a mail. I use Mandriva Linux, KMail for mailing. Zim
runs a script called
xdg-email, this is a FreeDesktop.org standard. When I click File | Send,
KMail's composer pops up.
