This is the freedesktop.org sanctioned place to put config files (a.k.a. XDG_CONFIG_HOME). You will see increasingly more applications from both the Gnome / XFCE and the KDE school of thought put their config there insteadd of directly clobbering the home dir. Thanks, I did not know that was
