[ZION] Who Owns Coca-Cola?

2003-07-01 Thread John W. Redelfs
The Mormons don't. They don't own Pepsi either. These are so-called
urban legends. If you are interested in who really does own Coca-Cola,
here is an interesting, short article.
http://www.snopes.com/cokelore/mormon.asp

It turns out that there may be individual Mormons who own Coca-Cola stock,
but that is as close to the truth as these legends come. I found the
following paragraph from the article particularly interesting as it
corroborates something that I have long said:

Though we hate to ruin a good bit of lore with the facts, the truth is
that although Mormons have been advised by church leaders to avoid
caffeinated beverages, this suggestion has not been passed down as official
church http://www.templehill.com/soda_caffeine.htmldoctrine to which all
members in good standing must adhere (unlike, say, the admonitions against
coffee, tea, tobacco and alcohol, which are church doctrine). Mormons can
swill Coca-Cola, eschew it and all other caffeinated beverages, or indulge
in the occasional Coke and still be considered churchgoers in good standing.

[ZION] Fraud, A Similarity of Views

2003-07-01 Thread John W. Redelfs
Our whole strength rests on the validity of that vision. It [The First
Vision] either occurred or it did not occur. If it did not, then this work
is a fraud. If it did, then it is the most important and wonderful work
under the heavens. --Gordon B. Hinckley, General Conference October 2002.

Mormonism must stand or fall on the story of Joseph Smith. He was either a
Prophet of God, divinely called, properly appointed and commissioned or he
was one of the biggest frauds this world has ever seen. There is no middle
ground. If Joseph was a deceiver, who willfully attempted to mislead
people, then he should be exposed, his claims should be refuted, and his
doctrines shown to be false... (Joseph Fielding Smith. DOCTRINES OF
SALVATION, Vol 1, p. 188)

I found these two quotes by different Presidents of the Church strikingly
similar. What do you think?
