Re: [ZION] Teaching Correct Principles
Gary: BTW, anyone else feel that Trent Lott should step down as Majority Leader? I've disliked him since he first got into that job. There are many decent Senators that would do a much better job, without looking like he just took off his white hood. Dan: I think that it's reasonable that he should be made to step down, but to force it now is the absolute worse timing. If he leaves now, then the Democrats will use it to their advantage and paint all Republicans with the racist brush (nevermind their own hypocritical record), but if they wait a while and perhaps point out some of the hypocrisy they will be in better shape in the long run. Re: [ZION] Teaching Correct Principles
Gary Smith favored us with: BTW, anyone else feel that Trent Lott should step down as Majority Leader? I've disliked him since he first got into that job. There are many decent Senators that would do a much better job, without looking like he just took off his white hood. After Clinton's acquittal I do not believe it is possible for any Senator to sink so low as to discredit that once august body. We didn't insist our President step down when he committed felony perjury and obstruction of justice, nor when he made our nation that laughing stock of the world by committing whoredoms in the Oval Office. Why should we get excited by something that Lott said. For many years prior to 1980 Lott had the most perfectly consistent, conservative voting record of any member of the Senate. I don't know how he has done lately. But whatever he said couldn't be nearly as vile as some of the things that the whole Senate has done in recent years. It would be perfect hypocrisy to force him to step down. Personally I don't care one way or the other. Congress is a nest of vipers. John W. [ZION] Teaching Correct Principles
Even if there are no nonmembers on the list right now (are you sure about that?), that doesn't mean that something couldn't be forwarded outside the list, either on purpose or by accident. It happens, you know. We've seen it happen. Just look at what people in politics/government have said lately, thinking no one was looking around. One Canadian leftist is praying to maintain her government position, because she called our president something off the record, but didn't make sure no one else was listening. Then there's the idiot Senator from the state just to my left on the map who praised Strom Thurmond by stating he should have won the presidency in 1948. Well, Strom only ran on one issue: segregation, so Trent Lott was showing either his stupidity, or his racism (or both) when he made that statement. We never know who's listening, or who is going to take our statements out of context, or spread them around the Internet. BTW, anyone else feel that Trent Lott should step down as Majority Leader? I've disliked him since he first got into that job. There are many decent Senators that would do a much better job, without looking like he just took off his white hood.
