Who is this Roberts person? A descendant of B.H. Roberts perhaps?

[ZION] Two Towers' anticipation

2002-12-11 Thread Gary Smith
When I was about 12, they did this with all five Planet of the Apes
movies. It started at noon and got out about midnight. I went with my
brother and some of his friends. Since curfew was 11, we had to duck
through alleys on our bikes to ensure the cops didn't stop us on the way
back home.

It was an awesome experience, but sure was creepy walking a mile back to
our bikes through a dark field at midnight...

[ZION] Two Towers

Of course, what el presidente Tom hasn't mentioned is that along with
washing his hair, he is a closet 'chick flick' fanatico. Give him Julia
Roberts dying of some strange disease and he'll be all swept up in the
moment. Make sure there are plenty of Kleenex around ;-)

Tom: I have to admit, however, that I received the
movie with a curious mixture of bewilderment, frustration and boredom.
It seemed to be essentially a rather contrived road movie with an
uncertain destination. The villains were far too villainous and the
heros far too heroic. It seemed to be a cartoon. The string of Deux ex
machina like plot twists became almost ludicrous and certainly
pretentious. The thought of watching another like it makes me start to
reach around in my mind for the normal range of excuses... "I'm sorry I
have to wash my hair* tonight, I guess I'll have to skip the movie this
time..."

Same thing with *the Three Musketeers* and *the Four Musketeers* which
were shot simultaneously (though further shooting was later
accomplished, and lots of remixing). Superman 1 & 2 (really 4 & 5 since
there were three Superman movies in the 1940s & 1950s, but I digress)
were shot simultaneously, but then the Saalkinds fired Richard Donner
and Richard Lester reshot most of Superman 2, making it more comical.
(Did the Saalkinds have a policy of hiring only directors named
"Richard"?)

[ZION] Two Towers

2002-12-04 Thread Gary Smith
The only one I'm aware of is the Back to the Future Series. Episodes 2
and 3 were made simultaneously. However, they aren't as complicated as
the LOTR, and they only did two episodes at once, not all three.

Mark:
For those who have not read the book but have seen the movie, "The Two
Towers" is far more action packed. Your senses will reel at the visual
and aural onslaught. Not _my_ senses of course. I will be drinking it
in with a large funnel. Since the second movie was shot at the same time
as the first, the feel is essentially seamless. This is something never
before seen in any major motion picture series. In fact, has any set of
movies ever been shot in this way before?
