The current 'solution' of letting it sort of run and spew out loads of
warnings strikes me as half-baked. Isn't this a bug?
What is best practice here?

I reran the zone setup to provide config output--and the darn thing
worked. Must have been pilot error the first time round. Sorry to
disturb...

ping in or out or do anything with them. No
arp information was being gathered. The same interfaces configured
directly into the global zone with the same IP numbers worked fine.
I can't see what I've done wrong, can anyone see what the problem might
be? I need this to work...
