Re: [Zope-dev] Upcoming Zope 2.9-2.11 releases

2009-04-28 Thread Christophe Tronche
Ok, and sorry for being so poorly informed.

We gave a try to ubuntu 9 last week, and we can't work with it: our zope
application uses several other packages that are no longer supported (nor
installed) with python 2.4. So this is a sensitive subject.

Congratulations to all for all this outstanding work.

Ch. Tronche

 - - Zope 2.12 prefers python 2.5 / 2.6, and should still run on 2.4.

 - - Older versions will continue to be supported only on 2.4 (we can't
make the kind of invasive changes needed for full compatibility in
  bugfix releases of stable software).

Re: [Zope] RIP Zope 2!

2009-04-14 Thread Christophe Tronche
1) for the record, lapaye.fr is a (profitable) software editor that has been
building business applications on the top of Zope 2 for 5 years (payroll
software, not plone or whatever). We don't intend to switch to another
platform in the foreseeable future [we're zope2.9 right now]. Python
programmers aren't in short supply, and Zope can be taught to a Python
programmer in a few weeks if we need to do that by ourselves. If Zope 2
doesn't change much, that's perfectly fine with me (except that I want my
refresh back).

2) We never went to Zope 3 because nobody was able to demonstrate a
convincing advantage over zope 2

3) Chris, I'm not sure about your point. Nobody starts a new application in
COBOL nowadays, but it's one of the most solid area you can go for money,
and I'm pretty sure it'll be the same 25 years from now.

Regards.

PS: 4) we're happy with xlwt too !

Yes, and there are many people in similar situations, but they're not

[Zope-dev] Re: Zope2.7.0rc2 AttributeError: RESPONSE object has noattribute 'setHeader'

2004-03-24 Thread Christophe Tronche
After investigating (but not solving the problem...)

The objects are there, but some security stuff returns None instead of the
object when we aren't supposed to have the rights... (could someone tell me
what function is first called to get the value of an object such as
AUTHENTICATED_USER ???).

In my case, this has everything to do with the class inheriting from
ObjectManager and declaring security.declareObjectPrivate(). Inherited
methods such as manage_workspace can be called when you're Manager, but some
objects (AUTHENTICATED_USER and RESPONSE among others) evaluate to None (if
security is really at stake here, raising an appropriate exception may be a
better answer). And it's not very intuitive for Manager to have some closed
doors.

For now, I've removed the declareObjectPrivate to work around the problem, but
I'm not sure it's an intended behavior, in particular after having read the
CHANGES.txt.

Ch. Tronche

The problem occurs when trying to interpret

 Any idea someone ?

 Agreed.

The problem I'm having is that these are all stock Zope products from a
