[Zope-dev] New release of z3c.form

2010-07-01 Thread Godefroid Chapelle
Hi z3c.form fathers ;-)

jfroche and I added a widget manager that enables mixing content
providers inbetween widgets when rendering forms.

We merged our branch to trunk :

http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.web.zope.all-cvs/43663

We would like a new release of z3c.form.
Can you give us access rights to PyPI ?
Or can you make the release ?

Regards,

The failing test here looks completely absurd:

What in the name of all that is holy is that supposed to be testing
(much lest documenting)?  In other words:  who wants to argue for not
ripping that useless (so I assert ;) assertion out?

The above is attempting to document the fact that the
lastRequestPystones exists and is a number. If I were to write the
test today I'd use a mocking framework to fix the number returned so the
example is more direct, but it seems sufficient as-is.

Adam gave me access...

Before doing a release, I checked the web for documentation.

I found http://docs.zope.org/z3c.form/

Last updated Nov 08,2009 Version 1.8.2dev.

What is the process to get the latest version published ?

Not sure. I think Paul Carduner did that. Since z3c.form is Sphinx-enabled, I
wonder whether we could stick the docs into
http://packages.python.org/z3c.form.

Manuel does this already:

The fact that the test failed seems to make it less than sufficient. I
don't quite see how checking pystones is a useful measure, unless you
*know* that there is only CPU involved and that the machine where you
are checking it is effectively unloaded: I/O and scheduling latencies
aren't going to be magically subtracted.

If the test/documentation, I've already stated what should be done about
it -- and I may do so at some point in the near future. In the

failing again.

If the feature: it's certainly not perfect, but has been useful.

Primarily about the test failure, and therefore the way the test is written.

If the test/documentation, I've already stated what should be done about
it -- and I may do so at some point in the near future. In the
meantime, adding another zero or five would decrease the chance of it
 failing again.

That wouldn't make the assertion any more useful either as a test (if
testing that the attribute is present and is an integer is all that is
wanted, then why not 'isinstance(browser.lastRequestPystones, int)'?)
or as documentation: what does 10,000 pystones mean? or 100,000?

If the feature: it's certainly not perfect, but has been useful.

If the feature itself is valuable, then its documentation should give
the user some idea how to interpret the value.

[Zope-dev] zope.i18messageid

2010-07-01 Thread Chris McDonough
Fabio,

Within the last few months you committed the following change to
zope.i18nmessageid:

http://svn.zope.org/zope.i18nmessageid/trunk/setup.py?rev=102497r1=101297r2=102497

The commit message is Fixed the compilation of the C extension with
python 2.6: refactored it as a setuptools Feature. Can I ask what
problem was being fixed with this commit?

It undid work I did in this revision:

http://svn.zope.org/zope.i18nmessageid/trunk/setup.py?rev=99669r1=97948r2=99669

I should have left a comment in there: the work was effectively there to
support building zope.i18nmessageid on Jython and other platforms like
GAE that do not support C extensions at all, even optionally. The
package no longer builds on Jython (error: Setup script exited with
error: Compiling extensions is not supported on Jython), although to be
honest I don't really understand why not. I'm hoping we can find a way
to retain whatever fix you were trying to make but still allow the
package to build on Jython, but I think I need to understand what
problem you were fixing first.
