The file .po that I downloaded from Rosetta:
http://librarian.launchpad.net/604680/604713/it.po
has given me a "duplicated definition".
Please can you check why?

I faced same experience with ja.po file.
msgfmt gave the following message, which means duplication error.
msgfmt -o ja.mo ja.po
ja.po:6571: メッセージが二重に定義されています
ja.po:5765: ...これは最初の定義にあります
msgfmt: 1 個の致命的エラーが見つかりました
You can avoid this duplicate error message by deleting last block of
message.
