SearchDatabase.com's 170,000 members use the site for multiple reasons: to keep up with the latest industry news, to find answers to specific technical problems, and to educate themselves about the plethora of data management technologies.

I'd like to announce a new series that I hope will serve your general educational needs: Learning Guides. Here is a sampling of what we've prepared so far:

  • The database - What is a database, the relational model, Codd's rules, database types, good database design, and normalization? Take the quiz at the end to see how much you learned.
  • SQL Server basics - This learning guide highlights basic SQL Server information that can help Oracle and DB2 pros get up to speed on the increasingly popular system.
  • DB2 basics - DB2 took top honors in some DBMS market share reports this year, which means many companies may have already, or will soon be, switching over to IBM's brand of data management. With that in mind, we created this learning guide, highlighting basic DB2 information that can help Oracle and SQL Server pros get up to speed.
  • Solving common DB2 errors - When you get an error code in DB2, it's easy enough to look it up in the Messages and Codes manual. But knowing what is wrong doesn't always help you to solve the problem. Here, DB2 guru Craig Mullins helps SearchDatabase.com members solve some common SQL errors...
  • Becoming an Oracle Certified Proessional - Whether you're an Oracle newbie or a self-proclaimed guru, getting an Oracle Certified Professional seal of approval may still be your key to staying afloat in a tough economy. This learning guide is designed to give you expert technical advice on where to begin your certification studies, passing the final exam and putting your certification into effect in the workplace.

More to come, so stay tuned....

Until next time, Tim
