LEAD STORY:
"First look at Rnext beta"
What is all the excitement over Lotus Rnext about? "It's obvious that
Lotus has placed considerable emphasis on the performance of its
clients by moving memory and resource intensive tasks to the
background. In fact, this new release contradicts the rumor that
Lotus planned to abandon the Notes clients in favor of a Web-based
application, and there are many added features," says this product
review.

[1] "Developers key to making wireless work"
IBM launched a Web site dedicated to providing developers with the
latest viewpoints on wireless technology. Analysts said giving
developers educational tools is one of the key ways to drive success
of wireless in the United States. IBM expects some users to use the
site to map out a plan for their company's wireless push, knowing
what areas are hot and where gaps with the technology have been left
unfilled.

[2] "RIM Model 957 (BlackBerry 5MB)"
RIM's BlackBerry wireless e-mail devices have become widely popular
among business users because they offer a simple and efficient way to
send and receive e-mail on the go from virtually anywhere in the
United States. "The RIM 957 may not be the ultimate PDA, but it is a
solid wireless e-mail device for corporate users. However, it comes
at a price," says this product review.

[3] "Motorola Timeport P935 (PIC)"
The Timeport P935, Motorola's latest wireless e-mail device, is
similar to its prime competitor, the RIM 957 BlackBerry. Like the RIM
957, the P935 has full functionality with links to popular desktop
PIMs, including Outlook, Act, and Lotus Organizer, as well as robust
e-mail capabilities. "And while it falls short of the RIM 957 in some
areas, it does have a few advantages," says this product review.

[4] "RIM to give BlackBerry a voice"
In Europe, the BlackBerry will run on the voice network known as
Global System for Mobile Communications. As a result, adding the
ability to make cell phone calls will be as simple as offering a
software download and plugging in an earphone similar to the
hands-free attachments for cell phones. RIM is counting on its
European effort, as well as an effort to make all BlackBerry pagers
compatible with Lotus Notes, to help the company keep growing despite
decreased technology spending.

[5] "Instant messaging wars could be short, nasty"
The leaders in instant messaging are heading for a showdown as the
service grows among business users, said Gartner Group in a new
study. The consultants predicted the battle between the two biggest
players, Microsoft and AOL, will come to a climax by 2003. The study
analyzed other competitors, including Yahoo, Jabber.com, Lotus and
Novell. But because AOL and Microsoft control 85 to 90% of the market
between them, the others are relatively insignificant, Gartner said.

THE MISSING LINK

"Veggie car takes a spin"
The world's first sports car to run on vegetables has been put
through its paces. It goes from 0 to 60 mph in under six seconds and
reaches a top speed of 130 mph. Known as the Advantige R, it was
developed by a Swiss manufacturer. The car runs on kompagas, a
renewable fuel made from rotting greenery and household waste. Tests
have shown 220 pounds of smelly vegetation will power the car for 62
miles. Start saving that leftover salad.
