LEAD STORY:
"Bootlegged software not an issue for iSeries"
Microsoft may be encouraging people to tattle on software pirates but
the problem does not exist for Lotus and IBM and the OS/400, Domino,
or other iSeries software products. There is no market for illicit
copies of Domino because small businesses or individuals - those
often tempted by pirated software - have no use for it, said a Lotus
official. Lotus is not out to catch users with their hands in the
cookie jar, the official said.

[3] "IBM introduces new dedicated server for Domino features"
IBM is all abuzz about the new Dedicated Server for Domino boxes,
which it has dubbed the bumblebee. IBM hopes the new server paired
with Lotus's new iNotes Access for Outlook e-mail client, will sting
the competition. On offer are two DSD models designed specifically
for Domino workloads, including the iSeries models 270 and 820. The
boxes are part of IBM's iSeries server line, which IBM markets
towards business-to-business uses. IBM also announced the next
version of the iSeries operating system, OS/400 V5R1, which features
some enhancements for Domino.

[4] "XML gets nod from Net standards group"
An Internet standards group has approved a new technology designed to
greatly improve the way businesses exchange information over the Web.
The World Wide Web Consortium has adopted a new Web standard, XML
schemas, that make it easier to develop common vocabularies, so
companies can communicate and exchange data. It not only allows
companies to easily and cheaply conduct online transactions with
their customers and partners, but it also delivers sound, video and
other data across the Web.

THE MISSING LINK

"Anderson takes the rap for tech crash"
Who is to blame for the technology stock crash? Venture leader Howard
Anderson is willing to take the blame. "Me. It's my fault. Me and my
fellow venture capitalists," he said. Not only does he admit the
frenzy of spending around Y2K helped set up the crash in technology
stocks, but that he and his VC colleagues knew Y2K was never a real
problem. He still sees some great prospects amid the ruins in the
dot-com sector. There is a catch, though. "We could take some of
these companies private and they could become profitable in year
one," he said.
