LEAD STORY:
"Lotus beefs up browser-based Notes client"
Lotus' iNotes Web Access is now available. It provides browser-based
client access to the messaging and collaboration features of its
Domino server. The iNotes client allows online and offline use of
e-mail, calendar, contacts, journal and to-do features of Domino.
Users also can get online access to Domino-based applications. IT
managers want the browser-based client because it reduces setup and
management. It costs $35 per user. INotes with support for
applications is $48 per user. The software is free for customers with
existing licenses.

[2} "Wireless Goal: Don't get whacked"
Whacking, or wireless hacking, is keeping some information technology
managers awake at night. But securing a wireless network is not very
different from protecting a wired one. Managers of wireless networks
must be concerned with authentication to prove users are who they
claim to be, integrity to ensure the data can't be altered, and
security to make certain data can't be intercepted. Here is what some
companies are doing to feel more secure.

[3] "MSN woes open door for IM rivals"
One instant-messaging service said it has gained converts from
Microsoft's week-long interruption to its MSN Messenger service.
Yahoo reported a 25% increase in downloads of its instant-messaging
software during Microsoft's outage, with people staying online up to
14% longer than normal. For Microsoft, any defections from its MSN
service could make it more difficult for the software maker to
convince customers to adopt, and pay, for its future Web services
products, analysts said.
