LEAD STORY:
"Corporations monitor e-mail to save their hides"
Corporate America is monitoring its employee e-mail in a big way.
Corporations usually install a software program, such as Baltimore
Technologies' MIMEsweeper for Domino or United Messaging's Message
Control, that scans incoming and outgoing messages. Automated
technology can scan for viruses, spam and offensive language. Some
products control the amount of e-mail sent and received, and a
MIMEsweeper add-on product scans e-mail for a surplus of flesh tones.

[1] "IBM develops a security monitor for wireless network"
IBM says it has developed the first technology security monitor that
ensures hackers and intruders stay out of corporate local wireless
networks. The tool, the wireless security monitor, is designed to
allow overseers of 802.11 wireless networks to ensure data and
e-mails are secure as they fly through the air riding on radio waves.
The device is still in a testing phase.

[2] "Watch Out: Worms are getting smarter, expert warns"
Peer-to-peer networks may be a breeding ground for the next
generation of Internet worms, a computer security consultant says.
Most of today's worms are still fairly low-tech and easily
controlled. The next generation of worms will use popular
file-sharing programs like Napster and Gnutella to transmit. Also,
they will be much stealthier.

[3] "Using XML to configure Groove"
One of the most promising applications of peer-to-peer technology
intended to enhance online collaboration is Groove, the P2P platform
of Groove Networks, founded by Lotus Notes creator Ray Ozzie. Groove
provides a set of code samples and API documentation to help
developers who want to begin building Groove tools, which are custom
applications designed to work within the Groove platform. Here is how
to use XML to configure custom applications for Groove.

[4] "Novell bets future on consulting, shuffles management"
Financially troubled Novell is undergoing a major restructuring that
focuses on a new sales channel that emphasizes consulting, according
to some in-house documents. The company, which competes with Lotus
with its Groupwise products, sees its emerging growth areas in
Novell's iFolder Internet file collaboration, clustering, back-up
services and data replication, as well as in directory, caching and
storage.

[5] "IBM cuts jobs as part of routine evaluations"
IBM, which last week announced it would lay off nearly 1,500 workers
in its global services unit, is letting other employees go in its
personal computer business and its sales and distribution operation.
The company did not specify how many employees would be cut.

THE MISSING LINK
A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web
-------------------------------------------------
"Tech words redefine Oxford dictionary"
Word to your lexicon! More words whelped from the womb of technology
have penetrated the pages of the "Concise Oxford Dictionary." The
latest version not only includes "MP3," "e-book," and "digital
divide," it even defines those text abbreviations you're forced to
use to save space on a tiny screen. "RUOK," "OIC," "KWIM" (know what
I mean?) and "BCNU" are all collected and defined in an appendix,
along with a stash of emoticons. :)
