"Domino and Linux get cozy"
Lotus has taken a number of steps to make Linux available
for Domino. But while the free open-source operating system

[1] "IBM builds analysis bundle for WebSphere"
IBM is striving to make data analysis easier and more
intuitive for its WebSphere customers with a new bundle
called the WebSphere Commerce Analyzer Advanced Edition. It
integrates pieces of IBM's DB2, its data warehouse, OLAP
and Intelligent Miner packages, as well as a graphical
front-end tool from Brio. Analytics has become a hot-button
issue as businesses seek to make sense of the reams of data
they've collected and stored.

[2] "GroupWise users grapple with bug"
A security group has detected a bug in Novell's newest
version of GroupWise. The bug can severely compromise the
security of the e-mail system. The problem, which appears
in GroupWise 6 and GroupWise 5 Enhancement Pack, allows
users to view all files on all drives, a permission that
would normally be disabled with policies. A patch is
available.

[3] "Linux making corporate inroads"
IDC concluded Linux is well-positioned to continue gaining
ground in businesses at the expense of other operating
systems. The company predicted spending on Linux hardware,
software, services and staffing will grow to 9% of
corporate information technology budgets in 2002, up from
3% in 1999. The studies found that 40% of the 800 decision
makers surveyed in North America and Western Europe are
actively using or piloting Linux, and that Linux unit
replenishment rates were twice as high as those for Unix.

THE MISSING LINK
A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web
-------------------------------------------------

"Quick: Get Tux some shades"
It seems Tux the Linux penguin is hot in Hollywood. No, the
Linux mascot is not the subject of an animated series (not
yet at least). But major moviemakers such as George Lucas'
Industrial Light and Magic special effects studio are
embracing the open-source operating system. Even Pixar
Animation Studios, creator of the Toy Story movies, is
considering Linux (though its CEO is Steve "Apple
Computer" Jobs). Sound funny? A cluster of Linux servers
produced the three-dimensional special effects in Titanic.
Just this week, IBM got into the act and released its Linux
Digital Studio package, which features workstations,
servers and storage devices.
