Qualcomm, the company that makes black cell phones that go in your pocket, reportedly plans to make black boxes that go in airliners. Only these black boxes will be very different than the ones searchers hunt down after the fact. Qualcomm's system will relay real-time, in-flight cockpit conversations, flight data, and video of passengers to ground control. If anything unusual were to happen up there, ground controllers would be able to see and hear the red flags -- and possibly have a chance to react. Qualcomm will enlist the satellite technology of Globalstar to get the system off the ground.
