While momentum is building for a standardized protocol for instant
messaging, interoperability among IM applications continues to be
vexed by unresolved business and security issues. Lotus recently
criticized a key interoperability protocol sponsored by the Internet
Engineering Task Force (IETF).

GIANTS FORGING WEB SERVICES CONSORTIUM | CNET
Today IBM, Microsoft, BEA Systems and Intel are expected to launch a
new industry consortium aimed at promoting Web services. The new
group -- called the Web Services Interoperability Organization --
plans to educate businesses on how to build Web services and ensure
that interoperability between vendors remains paramount.


LOTUS TIES NOTES, DOMINO TO JAVA FOR WEB SERVICES | Computerworld
Following last week's Lotusphere announcement when Lotus said that it
would not support Java Server Pages in Domino 6, some developers
expressed concern about during a session at the conference on J2EE
development in Domino 6. But a senior technical staff member at Lotus
said IBM's WebSphere Developer software will be bundled with Domino 6
at no extra cost.


IBM TO UNVEIL INDEX CARD-SIZE COMPUTER PROTOTYPE | Reuters
IBM says it has developed a prototype of a portable computer module
that is the size of a small notepad but has the computing power of a
notebook computer. IBM said it could be ready for market in few
years.
