LEAD STORY:
THE MESSAGE IS THE MEDIUM | Line56
Remember when people were still figuring out e-mail back in 1993?
That may be the stage that instant messaging (IM) is in today. IM
technology has potential, as the U.S. Navy has demonstrated, but one
expert said most workers today use IM as merely a chat conduit to
families and friends.

EXPERT ADVICE | Scott Lemieux, Enterprise Integration Expert

Dear Ask the Expert,
My organization (a public university) has multiple systems that could
potentially use Lotus products as an integration point. (SAP, various
student information systems, BlackBoard, etc.)

I'd like to find a way to "sell" a Lotus solution and point out the
great benefits to upper management so we can hopefully move forward
in the enterprise integration department. Can you help?

THE MISSING LINK | Buzz phrases that deserve the dust bin

Everyone's heard IT speak -- a language of buzz phrases that PR
people and industry geeks speak. It's a tongue so unspeakable it can
turn normal people into human press releases. Now, finally, the
cliches of computerdom are getting the dissing they deserve! The
Mercury News asked readers which shards of IT jargon annoyed them the
most. Drumroll please: "24x7," "leverage," "solution," "shift the
paradigm," "grow the business," "outside the box" and "best of breed"
all made the "most hated" list. Maybe these terms could go live in
exile somewhere and take "functionality," "scalability," and "ramping
up" with them!
