A Lotus spokesman said such thinking is premature. Lotus acknowledged earlier this year that it plans to swap out the Notes Storage Facility (NSF) of Domino in favor of a relational DB2-based store. It's quite another when they're whisked off in a van when no one is looking. Thieves in Santiago, Chile did just that, stealing more than a dozen PCs and a pair of servers from the office that controls the city's traffic lights. The result? Andean angst! In a city of more than five million people, nearly half of the traffic lights went haywire -- still working, but totally out of synch. Just imagine everybody going and everybody stopping in all directions at the same time. Good thing the city had a backup plan. Spare software kept things from getting even more out of control.
