Log on. A professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology says the notion that Internet addicts have no lives and are nothing but socially-challenged geeks too introverted to interface with other carbon-based life forms is way off base. He says Web hounds probably have more friends than most people and that they're staying online to keep up with everybody, which only strengthens their people skills. Let's face it -- the Net does make it possible to keep up with more people. So what about all the studies that say people who spend hours online are more likely to be unhappy and lonely? The prof says Netizens are just using their mice to reach out.
