WHO NEEDS DOCUMENTATION? | SearchDomino.com Blooper #10

When this Domino administrator installed new help desk software on
her system she didn't read the documentation. As things started to go
wrong she found herself writing the book on the merits of following
the vendor's instructions.

FORCE CLIENT TO RECOGNIZE SECURITY ON SWITCH ID | Jim Boling

In testing, if you are like me, you have one or more dummy Notes IDs
that you frequently switch to in order to assume different roles,
etc. One of the problems there is that it sometimes confuses the
client, so when you switch back to your own ID, you may not
immediately get the full access rights that you should have. For
example, you may not be able to get into Designer on the database in
question because Notes still thinks you are under the test ID's
security rights.

BEST SECURITY PRACTICES SOMETIMES OVERLOOKED | InfoWorld
Good IT security does not have to be fancy or expensive. In fact,
some of the best security strategies are simple and cheap. They
include using encrypted passwords, digital IDs, encrypted e-mail
access and collaborative software.

IBM SHOWS WEB SERVICES ON WEBSPHERE | CRN
Microsoft, IBM and VeriSign are at the XML Web Services One show in
Boston this week. Microsoft and IBM execs demonstrated how a Web

server is swapped out for a Microsoft .NET implementation. All three
companies will submit more details to the proposed WS-Security
specification for Web services.

THE MISSING LINK | Florida for a farthing

One person's goof is another person's Goofy. A family in the U.K.
managed to fly to Florida for about $23 apiece -- cheaper than the
price of one person's meal at Cinderella's Royal Table. Did they
hitch a ride on Dumbo's back? Close. Actually, an online travel
service called First Choice mistakenly listed the Florida fares. The
Dryer family bought six tickets and hoped that Disney magic would
keep First Choice in the dark. It did -- until the Dryers got back
home and told the media how they had all popped across the pond for
about the price of a single one-way ticket from Fort Lauderdale to
Orlando. First Choice said a staff member is the one who made the
Dopey mistake. The company let the Dryers get away with it and ate
the $4,500 it lost.
