Since IBM acquired Lotus in 1995, the future of Notes and Domino has been up for debate on a number of occasions. Today, the platform is much more secure, with the official release of Notes and Domino 6 just a few weeks away and Lotus' commitment to Notes and Domino 7. Yet it's tempting to wonder where Notes would be today if Ray Ozzie had kept his hands in the mix. Ozzie founded influential software development house Iris Associates in the mid 80s and created the first version of Notes in 1989, but he has spent the past several years working on Groove, a peer-to-peer collaboration offering, and has had relatively little to say about Notes. In fact, Groove has established close ties with Microsoft, and only recently released a new version that works tightly with Notes.
So do you think Ozzie's opinions still matter to the Notes community, or has he become just another voice in the crowd? We hope you'll cast your vote in our SearchDomino.com Poll, and let us know what you think about Ozzie's latest endeavors and the evolution of Notes and Domino in our SearchDomino Sound Off Forum.
Until next time,
Eric

One user writes: "I a particular view I have to give totals for hours and minutes. This are two fields, but the minutes give unreasonable totals like 600 minutes etc. Is there a way to convert minutes totals to hh:mm ?"

By Andre Guirard
When copying data to a place where you can only store or display a
limited number of characters, this little function will trim the
string to a specified length, adding "..." to show that some
characters were removed.
