The Missing Link

Geek Squads target PC users in distress
[San Francisco Chronicle]
Call it the "Spamish Inquisition" -- geeks who won't rest until innocent PCs are free of cursed junk e-mail, worms and viruses. The Geek Squad is like a cross between Ghostbusters, Mission Impossible and the house-calling doctor in Little House on the Prairie, with a heaping helping of nerdiness and a dash of Joe Friday from Dragnet thrown in for good measure. The squad makes house calls for PC users in distress; its phone number is 800-GEEK-SQUAD. The geeks are called "double agents" and dress like G-men. And they may be answering a call in your town -- Best Buy is the Charlie to the squad's Angels and plans to expand the service to all 619 stores.
