Alliance plans to stem tide of spam

An alliance of top tech companies including Microsoft, Yahoo and Comcast have issued a set of best practices for filtering and sending e-mail, part of a broad, industry-wide effort to stem the ever-growing tide of spam e-mail. The tech firms are calling for authentication of email senders by IP address or with digital content signatures, and zero tolerance for "zombie" PCs that spammers hijack to send unwanted messages.

Eclipse readies tools for diverse app building

The open source software foundation for Java developers is preparing to release new tools for building rich-client applications, part of an effort to help businesses construct graphics-rich applications that run on different operating systems. Eclipse was part of IBM until February, when Big Blue spun off the organization.
