[1] "Sun replaces defective Sun Ray devices"
Shouldn't the innards of the Sun Ray 1 be a non-smoking area? Sun has
announced the field replacement of some Sun Ray 1 appliances because
of a failure in their power supply wiring. Usually when there's a
failure, the thin client device will appear to have lost power, but
in some cases it may smoke. Sun says this isn't because of a fire,
but because a faulty capacitor is venting.

[2] "Cisco and partners push IPv6 development"
Microsoft, IBM, HP, Sun and Motorola will join Cisco to advance IPv6
(Internet Protocol Version 6) hardware and software development. The
companies' efforts should make for more functionality and greater
access for desktop, back-end, and mobile platforms. HP will use IPv6
in its HP-UX11i server to support more users, something Sun has
already done with Solaris 8.

[3] "SOAP progresses through standardization process"
The World Wide Web Consortium has cleaned up and sent out its first
public working draft of SOAP 1.2. This version aims to improve error
reporting and recommendations on how to handle error messaging in
terms of version conflicts. SOAP ultimately aims to help developers
build better applications and full support of the XML schema. Sun is
backing the SOAP push.

"Standard Performance Evaluation Corporation"
The mission of the Standard Performance Evaluation Corp. is "to
establish, maintain, and endorse a standardized set of relevant
benchmarks and metrics for performance evaluation of modern computer
systems." In other words, this is a good site to find out how the
computer equipment you use stacks up against the competition.

THE MISSING LINK
A look at an off-the-wall story from the Web...
================

"Smoking mad over pot virus"
Does your PC have a bad case of the munchies? Does it giggle
incessantly? It could have been infected with the Marijuana virus.
I-Worm.Mari comes as an e-mail with the subject line "check this
out." When the computer "inhales," a Trojan Horse program sets the
Internet Explorer browser start page to marijuana.com and pastes a
pot leaf in the Windows system tray (no word yet if the virus affects
the PC's short term memory or desire to work). The folks at
marijuana.com are fuming - they say they have nothing to do with the
wired weed, which could lead to harder viruses.
