The problem centers around the Telnetd program of FreeBSD's open-source operating systems built on Berkeley Software Design code. Security experts aren't sure if HP-UX or Solaris could be affected. A bad person could use the hole in Services for Unix (SFU) 2.0 to crash Windows NT and Windows 2000 servers. The patch will be included in SFU 3.0. The bad news is those savings come at a cost of 6,000 pink slips. The company will fire more than 6% of its workforce for the sake of fiscal health. HP's sales this quarter are below expectations.
