IBM will pit these services against .Net and Hailstorm. Well, chances are if you're an IT pro or if you just surf the Web for fun at home, the fruits of his labor are in the palm of your hand. Engelbart is the inventor of the computer mouse, and his colleagues and disciples hail him as a point-and-click visionary. Engelbart is also responsible for the first public demonstration of hypertext and online conferencing, more than 30 years ago. Now 75, Engelbart "retired" in 1989 only to throw his energies behind what he calls his "bootstrap institute," a vision that pulls countries, concepts and other "social organisms" together.
