LEAD STORY
"Microsoft responds to Passport flaws"
Microsoft blames human error for a possible security flaw in its
Passport authentication engine. Security experts say Redmond's
response to the flaw is flawed, ignoring the fact that a good
security engine should have caught the problem. A silicon.com reader
blew the whistle, saying he was able to see the account details of
another Microsoft licensee.

[4] Licensing questions overshadow Office XP launch
[5] Chip tests: Itanium wins some, loses some

[1] "Promises of Jennifer Lopez nude deliver destructive virus"
Just say no to J Lo. Virus writers have once again created a cousin
of the Love Letter VBScript worm, this time promising a nekkid
Jennifer Lopez. Wow, how creative (just once why couldn't they
promise pix of say, Ernest Borgnine?). JENNIFERLOPEZ_NAKED.JPG.vbs,
VBS.Loveletter.CM@mm or VBS.Lopez.a@mm (it goes by all three names)
can trash multimedia files, and deliver a bonus virus -- Chernobyl.
The subject line of the insidious e-mail says, "Where are you."

[2] "Aelita offers tool for backup, recovery of Active Directory"
You may want to add this to your Active Directory toolbox. Aelita
Software has pushed Version 6.0 of ERDisk out the door. This version
focuses on the backup and recovery of AD.

[3] "IBM adds more standards in WebSphere release"
IBM is competing with Microsoft for your Web services business, and
here's Big Blue's latest product to woo you -- a fresh WebSphere
Studio and Workbench toolkit. WebSphere Application Server Version 4
will be Big Blue's first server software product to include support
for the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) platform. It also supports a
variety of open standards such as XML, UDDI, SOAP and EJB. Windows
versions will be ready for beta testing in July.

[4] "Licensing questions overshadow Office XP launch"
Office XP may have been the belle of the ball yesterday, but some
onlookers think, "the girl has issues" despite her good looks. In the
case of Office XP, Microsoft's new licensing policies could keep
businesses from using it. Microsoft will kill version upgrades on
October 1st, and push non-perpetual licensing agreements, or
limited-use contracts. MS says the plan will keep users running the
latest software versions. Critics say those users will pony up 30% to
70% more money each year under the plan.

[5] "Chip tests: Itanium wins some, loses some"
Intel Itanium smacks UltraSPARC III in some areas, but Sun's chip
knocks Intel's block off in other areas. Sun dominates in "integer"
operations. Sun has this advantage too: The fact that customers and
vendors have to make transitions with the Itanium, whereas Sun
customers are guaranteed that software written for earlier UltraSPARC
chips will run fine on the UltraSPARC III.

A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"Forget flowers, gadgets are a girl's best friend"
Take note, guys. Want to impress your girl? Forget flowers. Forget
chocolates. Scientists at Britain's University of Hertfordshire who
monitored women's reactions to certain types of presents found that
high tech toys, like a DVD player, aroused the greatest response. The
research suggests men should go for the "coolest, shiniest gadgets"
when gift giving. Sure, women may be willing to forfeit the roses and
the Godivas, but when women think "coolest and shiniest gadgets," are
they really thinking about a Palm Pilot? We doubt it. Trust us,
nothing says 'I love you' like a diamond.
