LEAD STORY
"'XP not cracked', says Microsoft"
Microsoft is denying rumors that its flagship Office XP suite has
been cracked. Unconfirmed reports had been appearing after an article
went up on unofficial Windows news website claiming that a bootleg
copy of Office XP worked without being activated by Microsoft. This
led some people to believe that the product activation system on
Office XP had been cracked. However, the real answer may lie in a
misunderstanding over the details of Microsoft's new licensing
agreement.

[1] "Commentary: The myths of Windows XP"
Gartner analyst Mike Silver dispels several common myths of Windows
XP, centering on the assumption that enterprises have to standardize
on either XP or 2000. Silver advises companies in the process of
migrating to Windows 2000 to continue to do so -- but he suggests
adopting Windows XP for new machines after Q1 2002. Organizations
planning to adopt Windows 2000 late in 2001 or after should consider
upgrading to Windows XP instead.

A look at an off-the-wall story off the Web

"Vatican: Online evangelization yes, confessions no"
Confession will never become a cyber-sacrament for Roman Catholics.
That's the definitive word from the Vatican. In a document about to
be released, the Church praises the Internet as a "wonderful
instrument for evangelization and pastoral service." But a top
Vatican official says the document will also explain that online
confessions are out of the question.
