LEAD STORY
"Microsoft, AOL resume Windows XP talks"
The on-again-off-again talks between AOL Time Warner and Microsoft
are on again. The pair are negotiating over whether or not AOL's
software will be included in the upcoming Windows XP operating
system. Published reports said that the talks to renew the deal were
called off when the companies, both vying to become the dominant
force on the Internet, could not agree to terms. Although the talks
are back on, a source close to the negotiations said the companies
are still "far apart" on key issues, "from technical questions to the
overall relationship."

[2] "Expert says Windows XP aids vandals"
An Internet security expert is warning Microsoft that the planned
consumer rollout of Windows XP for personal computers could make the
Web even more vulnerable. The software adds powerful
Internet-connection capabilities that the security expert says makes
server computers more susceptible to distributed denial of service
attacks (DDoS). DDoS attackers remotely commandeer hundreds of
personal computers connected to the Internet and use them to release
a disabling deluge of data against a specific Web site. (Free

[3] "XP bandwagon rolls into CRM territory"
As Microsoft was launching Office XP last week, at least three
Customer Relationship Management (CRM) companies stepped forward to
declare themselves onboard with the new product suite. Pivotal,
Frontrange Solutions and Talisma said they will take advantage of the
suite's new features by adding functionality to their CRM
applications which work in tandem with Office XP.

Two early adopters -- Health e Connex, an application service
provider for the medical community, and Cisco -- share highlights of
their Datacenter implementations. Each overview includes a brief
company backgrounder, the problem, the solution and the company's
future hardware/software plans. The moral of the stories? Migrating
to Datacenter is a major investment, but if your scalability concerns
mirror either of these two enterprises, then Datacenter is worth
considering.
