The program was likely installed during the Sadmind/IIS and Code Red worm outbreaks. Many IIS operators may have patched their systems without knowing if they had been already hit. The new tool is designed to guard IIS-based Web servers from attacks by helping to ensure that they only respond to legitimate requests. Security experts say the two could be making vulnerable music together. Machines running this combination of software can be manipulated to give directory information to an attacker. There is no patch yet, but just disabling the notification feature that returns rejected messages to the sender will solve the problem. Without a patch, NT systems are candidates for DoS attacks. Microsoft has stressed that Windows 2000 and Windows XP systems do not have the flaw.
